The Role of Geological Route Selection in One Section of Georgian Railway Project |

Abstract Abstract:Research purposes: The primary design plan of Georgian modernized railway applies tunnel to go through the upper part of Babi village ancient landslide in the section of KM 12+100~KM 13+600. It is known that engineering construction is easy to disturb the large ancient landslide and cause incalculable loss. This paper described how to use the comprehensive geological survey methods, such as remote sensing interpretation, geological mapping, geological exploration and so on to identify the elements of Babi village ancient landslide and analyzed its cause. The route bypassing plan was proposed.
Research conclusions:(1) By using comprehensive geological survey methods,the investigation works brought out that the size of the landslide was about 520 m long and 270 m wide, with the shape like an inverted pear. (2)It ensured the type of the landslide belonged to rock-cutting landslide, which may be caused by strong earthquake. (3)Thanks to the "Single Rotary and Double-Tube Core"drilling technique, the location of sliding surface and affecting depth for the project were identified. (4)Combined with the survey data, preliminary design plan would have serious risks. The reasonable route bypassing plan which should go through the inside bedrock area was proposed. (5)This paper has a certain guiding significance to the investigation and route selection works in the landslide area.
