Abstract There are almost 4000 railway and highway tunnels in China. Through operation for many years, a lot of tunnel defects occurred frequently. It is necessary to apply the advanced non-destructive testing for supervision and protection of the tunnels, being a tendency in recent years. In this paper, the methods of non-destructive testing in home and abroad are induced and compared, and their applying conditions in China are also introduced.
