Abstract：Estimating the uncertainties of the design variables is the basis of revising the design code based on the reliability theory. This paper analyses the uncertainties of the design variables of the shallow foundations of the railway bridges，and derives the expressions computing the coefficient of variations of the load and the resistance of the soils. The results in the paper can be adopted while rewising the current code.
