Abstract：Based o n the di scussions o n the main engineering geological problems, the relationship betw een permaf rost stabi li ty a nd engineering , the related st rategical principles and engineering measures for the basic engineering and the advisability in the permaf rost a rea of Qinghai-Xizang pla teau, the adv antages and disadv antag es hav e been analy zed for ro ute selection plans of railw ay tow ards Xi zang . Only considering the exi stence and dev elopment of permaf rost and the engineering damag e in the cold regio ns, the Qinghai-Xi zang rai lway line should be thoug ht as the best one among al l plans.
