Abstract：As constructing the bridge foundations in the deep water，we have adopted a new efficient construction technique, in which the steel caisson cofferdam was assembled section by section and then were settled down along a simple guiding frame. By taking the construc?tion of the foundations in deep water for the Gongshui special great river bridge in the Bei?jing-Kowloon Railway as an example, we expound in this paper the essentials of the design and the construction of the steel caisson cofferdam assembled and settled section by section in detail.
