Abstract：The paper describes the Baotou-Lanzhou Railway Line which goes through the moving high barchan dunes and barchan dune range near Shapotou. The meteorological fac?tors ,dune types and sand moving regulation are controled by field investigation and research station observation. All kinds of machineries，biological protection and materials test were done on tested subgrade. According to summary 6f the tests the railway design and construc-tion were completed with the principle of integrating each other of transporting，stopping and stabilizing. After the line was opened into operation，drawing water to planting has been done by local and scientific units，the area along the line has now become a green belt crossing desert,the railways is always in good operation state. Many scholars over the world go there to visit.
