Abstract:Abstract : Research purposes : Clay soil of Sheshan group is a special kind of clay which distributes widely in the edge of the Lijiang basin, with the thickness of ten meters. Compared with other kinds of clay soil, Sheshan clay soil possesses special micro - geological characteristics and engineering geological characteristics due to the different depositional environment, climate and other factors. The clay group was repeatedly passed through during the construction of the Dali - Ruili railway line and the Ruili - Shangri-La railway line. The research on the formation reasons and the characteristics can provide a basis for the choice of the construction scheme and measure. Research conclusions : (1) The clay soil of Sheshan group owns the characteristics of low density, high porosity ratio, high water content,high plasticity,high dispersibility and organic matter content,with the engineering characteristics of constitutive property and swell - shrink characteristic. (2) The structure of the clay can easily be destroyed after leaching at the surface layer under the condition of the alternation of wetting and dryig environment and the mechanical property of the clay decays obviously. In consequence, the clay may transform into soft soil and cause discrepant deformation and destruction of the slope. ( 3 ) The research result can guide the engineering geological survey and design in the area of the structure clay.
