Abstract：Research purposes: With accelerating the Chines pace of importing and exporting the high － speed railway gradually，sometimes the UIC ( International Union of Railways ) standards are used by the Chinese railway designers， so the designer should well research the contents of the UIC standards，especially know the differences between China standards and UIC standards． The maintenance base is very important for the safety of the high － speed railway and the comfortableness of passenger，therefore the more attention should be paid to the analysis and research on the key points and differences between China standards and UIC standards on the maintenance base．
Research conclusions: There are differences between the China standards and the UIC standards in the location， scale and facilities of the maintenance base while the type grade is the same with the two level institutions． As regards the location of the maintenance base， the maintenance based should be located in the new railway line according to the stipulation of the China standard，but the maintenance base can be located in the new line or in the existing line according to the UIC standards． As regarding the maintenance base scale，there is a little difference between them except more tracks can be laid out according to the stipulation． The facilities are almost the same with a little differences in the facilities of the railway track，refuelling and the yard．
