Abstract Because there are many design of the railway is replace bridges for roadbeds’， so pile foundation is the most popular one in the design of the foundation type. This paper study the key technic of pile foundation used in the permafrost of the Qinghai-Tibet railway. Through the study， some engineering methods of the pile design are put forward. We study the following important question of the proper type of the pile foundation of the permafrost, what is the effect of the motive area of the permafrost for frost express to pile foundation and some methods are given.
