Abstract The forming mechanism and determining method of slaking layer of expansive soil (or rock) slope are described in the paper. The discrimination and relation between slaking layer and waste mantas are also discussed of expansive soil (or rock)in southwest area. Lastly the zoning layer's thickness of slaking layer and its physical and mechanical properties arc researched.
