Abstract Based on analyses on the principles of shallow underground excavation method and shield driving method，as well as their application in subway engineering projects，it is recognized that the shallow under-ground excavation method and the shield driving method arc two important construction methods for construction of subways，having specialities themselves with each other. While the shield driving method possess wide developing prospect in subway scope hereafter.
