Abstract Based on the mechanism analysis of karst collapses along several railways, the conceptual models of seepage cap soil，impermeable cap soil，karst cave with thin roof and artificial bed of cutting slope arc established and expressed with examples. The analysis by dividing the study fields into several typical conceptual model provides a basis for the establishment of predicting models and the prevention and cure of the hazard.
