Abstract The statistic analyses on practically measured settlement data for the embankments with soft roadbed have been put forward. The amount of settlement after construction and the change of the speed of settlement are forecasted. At the same time, the author analyses the factors which influence the settlement after construction as follows： the settlement of the main body of embankment. the different periods of construction, and the soft soil layers beneath the consolidated laver of the soft roadbed.
