Abstract Now aday s, facing o n the oppo rtuni ty of wide o pen and big dev elopment of the West China , a high tile of railway construction wi ll be rai sed in the 21st century. Hereaf ter to year 2050, i t is fo recasted tha t the new ly-built rai lway s for the railw ay netw ork in West China wil l be nearly 30 000 km, w hich is the 54. 5% of to tal amount of new ly-buil t railw ays in 21st century in the who le China, and is larg er than the sum o f new lybuil t railway s in Middle China and East China. The autho r summa ri zes the relativ e theses i ssued in dif ferent railw ay periodicals in recent few y ears, analy zes and co ncludes the const ruction st ructure o f the railw ay netw o rk in the West China in 21st cent ruy , and proposes several opinions a nd sugg estions.
