Abstract The paper proposes the interaction relationship betw een the railw ay netw ork and the dev elopment o f the coastal por ts. The necessi ty of dev elo ping the coa stal port s in the East Guangdong region, the o bjectiv e conditions and thei r tendency are analyzed systematically. Specific researches are made concerned w ith the sco pe of sev eral important po rts in thi s region and thei r prospects.
