Abstract This paper proposes the problem of classification concerned with the two kinds of hidden karst which are quite different in engineering geological specialities. Based on the par- ticular practical examples, their essential differences are analyzed, such as their distribution regions, the causes of formation of the engineering defects, the methods of surveying, etc.
