Abstract The extra-long bridge in a railway line from Fengzhun to Zhungeer is located in the gorge of Yellow River in Inner Mongolian Loess Plateau. Karst is the main problem af?fecting the stability of the bridgebase. The main achievement made through several effective methods such as the in-drilling radiowave transimission，the geological mapping and the drilling are introduced，The rules of karst development in North China are also probed here。
