Abstract From two important aspects,i. e. design and construction works,the paper analyzes the railway subgrade problems exposed in recent years during the construction of new railway lines, especially new railway lines in the mountainous regions. The practical examples and the experi-ences for modifying the design and the construction works are introduced. Suggestions for raising subgrade quality and eliminating subgrade defects in the construction of railways are also pro?posed.
