Abstract The Qiling Tunnel situated at the Qanzhou-Longnan section of the Beijing-Jiulong Railway Line is an important engineering point controlling the time limit for the project. As the construction works prevented by the special geological conditions of the soft-rock section at the entrance of the Qiling Tunnel, this point has been called as an engineering point the greatest in the world by the Ministry of Railways. The technical measures adopted and the construction characteristics are described and discussed in this paper.
