Abstract This paper introduces the principles and technology of a new shallew-underground cut method originated by the Railway Tunnel Engineering Bureau during constructing the West Tian，anmen station of the Beijing Metro Lines. The new cut method is more economic > practical and reliable than the original design scheme. This new experience is also valuable for constructing other underground engineerings.
