Abstract Abstract : Research purposes : The factors of the ground surface settlements due to metro construction are difficult to calculate based on the general theory, and the monitoring becomes one of the most important methods for engineering decisions. It is necessary to explore the spatial distribution and statistical characteristics based on the monitoring data,
which could be helpful to the other similar engineering both in theory and in practice.
Research conclusions:( 1 ) The ground may upheave to 10-25 mm during the mixing pile execution in metro construction. (2) The ground settlements were significantly during the metro station excavation. The maximum
settlements occurred on the section of 0. 3 ~ 0. 9 times of the foundation pit depth, and were perpendicular to the long
edge of the excavation. The results are some similar to the other researches, but seem to be a little scatter. (3) The
position interval of the settlement maximums is [0.50, 0.73] of the excavation depth according to the statistical characteristic
of the monitoring data, and the mean, the median, and the mean square error is 0.65,0.64 and 0.11 correspondingly. The
area of the maximums should be monitored and assessed with particular attention. (4) The settlement maximums of the complex shape section may deviate from the statistical interval, and the construction in the area should be investigated and
optimized carefully in the schemes. (5) The results are helpful for the design and construction in metro engineering.
