Abstract：The high big cut ting slope wi th fissured clay ( such as hig her than 6 m) was usually desig ned as a combined slope wi th tw o-stag e side slopes. Meanw hile, as if this kind of cut ting slope is composed of the soi l who se inside quali ties hav e only small di fference, the exi sting o ptimal desig n problem fo r the installatio n of a terrace may be the posi tio n and the w idth of the terrace. There are tw o desig n methods co ncerned wi th this problem. They are ex plo red in this paper combined wi th the co nsideratio ns o f the stabi li ty o f the cutting slo pe and the economy of the ex cav atio n.
