Abstract The paper discusses the problems concerned with the construction of mudstone tunnels by applying NATM. The schemes of construction and water treatment and the engineering pro?cedures are suggested. It is recognized that the key points for guiding the engineering works are： strengthening the supervision of the measurement of the surrounding rocks and controlling the straining manner of the surrounding rocks.
