Abstract This paper systematically expresses the separation and lithological character of carbonatite and the various developmental degrees of shallow karst along the Yan—Shi Rail?way, According to the practice of construction，this paper also expresses the influence of shallow karst foundation on the engineering. Examples are given to explain the engineering measures which are used in bridges due to a shallow karst foundation in several developmen?tal conditions.
