Abstract There was no example to proceed the assembly of rigid frame archs by using the method of lateral sliding of the long-span longintudinal support in deep water. During the construction of a major bridge on the Anli Reservoir,this method was applied successfully to complete the assembly of 4 rigid frame arches with 45m span each. The construction works proceeded with rapid speed thigh quality and low cost. The paper introduces this construction method emphatically.
