Abstract Based on analysis on the trend of structural regulation of national energy resources, the necessities of using electric power supply as traction power for railways are expounded. For several ten-years in the future the railway will be an important non-replaceable transport facility in China, and the implementation of electrification of railways will be in accordance with the long-medium terms strategy targets for national energy resources.
