Abstract Bao-Tian railway is a heavy geological hazard railway. The complex topography and bad geological condition along railway arc the main factors of the frequent hazard to the existing railway, and they are also two great controlling factors of the second track route selection. Bao-Tian second track spanning Weihe river fifty-five times is a need for taking the full advantageous geological condition. Based on the analysis of geological condition along railway and the assimilation of historical experience and lesson,the article explains this opinion by actual route selection instance.
