Abstract This paper analyses the problems in practice of long-distance survey and design mode which is changing from "local design" to "long-distance coordinate design" based on taking the Third Railway Survey and Design Institute as an example, presents the resolutions to the problems. Some of resolutions have been adopted in survey, design and management works场the Third Railway Survey and Design Institute and got good results.
