Abstract：Based on analysis on the trend of structural regulation of national energy resources, the necessities of using electric power supply as traction power for railways are expounded. For several ten-years in the future the railway will be an important non-replaceable transport facility in China, and the implementation of electrification of railways will be in accordance with the long-medium terms strategy targets for national energy resources.
