Abstract：This article analyses the functions and the advantages of the suburban railway, and introduces the situations of two modern big cities : Paris and Beijing. In recent years,the structure of Beijing City has been changed greatly, expressed mainly on the enlargement of the scope of urban district .decreasing gradually of population in the city proper.increasing rapidly of population in the suburbs，and violent increasement of passenger traffic capacity between the city proper and the suburbs. And it is pointed out that the construction of the suburban railway in Beijing will alleviate the situation of the transportation congestion and promote the economic construction in Beijing.
