Abstract:Research purposes: Cross-section property is an important parameter in design of railway-bridge structures, not only in resistance of structure calculation, but also in engineer quantity calculation. With a variety of structure types, such as beams, piers and foundations, the railway-bridge has complex cross-section types, such as box section and hollow section. The cross-section property calculation of complex section type in design is accomplished by simplified processing method or external business software in usual practice, which result in insufficient calculation accuracy and low design efficiency. To solve this problem, it is necessary to research the calculation method of arbitrary cross-section property. Research conclusions: (1) Any cross-sections type of railway-bridge structure is consist of segments and arcs, every segment of arc could be represented by a unified format. Based on this, arbitrary cross-section type could be described by one or more closed contours, which is composed of segments and arcs. (2) Every closed contour could be considered as multiple sets of triangle patch or triangle-spherical-crown patch with the common vertex. The cross-section property of the whole closed contour could be got by summing all the patches property. (3) A general calculation program was developed based on the calculation method proposed in this paper. This program had the function of reading and processing graphic data of AutoCAD software. (4) Taking concrete box beam and thin-walled steel box beam as examples, the calculation results showed that the method proposed in this paper had high calculation accuracy and met the requirements of engineering design. (5) Besides the railway-bridge engineering, the calculation method could also be used in highway or municipal engineering.
