Abstract Through taking part in design of viaducts No.2 metro line, the Xin-Min light-rail transportation with the railway bridges and highway bridges, there for the cast and west extended sections of the Shanghai line and the Xi'an metro project, etc. and by comparing are two special problems that should be considered in design of viaducts for urban rail transit: i.e. the longitudinal force and the vertical displacement. The longitudinal force and the vertical displacement arc explored in detail, and their corresponding countermeasures on design are proposed.
