Design and Rapid Construction of Tsingtao Yangkou Large Section Tunnel in Hard Rock

Abstract:Research purposes: As the controlled project of coastal highway in Tsingtao,the Tsingtao Yangkou Tunnel is about 3 900 m long,16.8 m wide and 9.6 m high with composite lining.The tunnel is composed of two tunnels with 6 driveways for bi—direction.The tunnel passes through granite stratum,and the area of V grade surrounding rock is about 400 m long.Nowadays for construction of tunnel in soft rock.the。’CD”or”CRD”or both—side heading method is adopted.Using these methods,the construction procedure changes frequently,the construction speed is slow,the large—sized machine is unable to work,and there are lots of temporary engineering and discarded projects.
Research conclusions: In order to realize the operation of large—sized machine working,speed up construction process and decrease the temporary engineering,the area of the V grade surrounding rock was reinforced by grouting through pipes in advance and the preliminary support was strengthened following the working face.Also,full section tunneling and benching tunneling method were used,which can make large—sized machines easy to work for speeding up the construction process.The average length of tunneling of a month is 140 m by one working face.The benching tunneling method can be adopted for construction of tunnel in III grade and V grade surrounding rocks.
