Abstract The paper is emphasized at analysis of the importance of railway major passages in the developing West China. Based on the issues existed in western railways, it makes the study on transport characteristics and transport market of railways in western region, as well as the development in the future after implementing the strategic plan of the developing West China. The paper points out the major ideas of speeding up the construction of western railway passages and its countermeasures.
