Abstract:Research purposes: Shear connector of steel concrete composite beam is of critical importance for steel beam and concrete bridge deck to work together which makes full use of the material properties of steel and concrete. The standards of highway bridge have no instructions for calculation of shear connector of steel concrete composite beam and other available industry standards,books or national standards are all different from one another. Therefore, it is necessary to have a discussion on the calculation method of shear connector of highway bridges' steel concrete composite beam.
Research conclusions: Shear capacity of shear connector was calculated according to some standard. The conclusions are:(1)'Code for Design of Steel Structures' and 'EC4' are similar in calculation,either of which is not considering fatigue and crack. They provide a minimum number of shear connectors. (2)' Steel Bridges'(Onishi Ichiro) gives us a conservative method and takes fatigue and interface slip into account. This method provides a better durability. (3)'Modern Steel Bridges'(Wu Chong) calculates shear capacity in the same way as 'Steel Bridges'(Onishi Ichiro). (4)'Code for Design of Composite Steel and Concrete Railway Bridges' is a reference of 'EC4'. (5)'Code for Design of Composite Steel and Concrete Bridges' is similar as 'Code for Design of Steel Structures'. Furthermore,it considers stud shear failure,concrete crushing and group nail effect.(6)This research results provide a reference for the design of shear connector of steel concrete composite beam.
