Abstract：The developments of disaster mitigation technique against debris flow along Chi?nese railway lines are described briefly in this paper. For the hard countermeasures ,the suit?able conditions，the disaster mitigation functions and the economic efficiencies of the pretec- tive works (drainage ditches, dams and debris diversion aqueducts)are analysed and conclud?ed; for the soft countermeasures, the existing disaster mitigation management method is also discussed. Finally,the authors present their opinions about what should be studied in the fu?ture.
