Abstract Red mudstone is a special rock-soil, its filling density is sensitive to water content. This paper, first of all, gives an introduction to the principle and method for centrifugal experiment, then presents the relations between settlement and compacted thickness, settlement and acceleration, construction duration and post-construction settlement, and construction duration and time through simulating four kinds of red mudstone embankments with filling and compacted thickness of 87%，90%，93%and 97%by centrifugal model, last determines the filling parameters embankment construction.
