Abstract Research purposes: It is of significance to detect secondary lining's defect of tunnels as well as to repair and strengthen the secondary lining. Radar was applied to detect lining's defect in Jiaoxiling tunnels. Direct stiffness method was used to study the influence of holes on the lining mechanics.
Research conclusions:Main defects of the secondary,holes lying behind the crown, and the next is seepage. The secondary lining mechanic is showed to be very complex and unfavorable due to holes. The weak parts locate the crown and middle of the arch. The first reason of lining defect is that construction had not adopted IVATM and had not caught the key design meaning. The next reason is that it is hard to fill the crown fully and densely. Some treatments are presented if the hole size lying behind the crown is very large to ensure the operation in safety.
