Research conclusions: ( 1) The matter that the actual additional stress of the subgrade with piled raft foundation is less than the calculated value is one of the causes for the error of the settlement calculation． ( 2) There is a critical pile length in foundation reinforcement for the subgrade with piled raft foundation． ( 3) It is reasonable to calculate the self － weight stress of the soil below the groundwater level by using floating density．
