Research methods：First of all, the summary and classification of the overvoltage of the traction substation for electrified
Railway are made, then the analyses and explanation are given on the prevention of all kinds of overvoltage, finally the
reduction and explanation，presented for the calculation formulas of operational overvoltage based on the calculation
example.
Research conclusions: Overvoltage is an important problem regarding to the safety of electric equipments. The
overvoltage problem of traction substation is the basically same as that of substation o# power system, but the traction
substation has much differences in wiring mode, load characteristics and working conditions from the substation of power
system ,so the overvoltage of fraction substation should be handled differently from that of pourer system.
