Abstract Research purposes: This paper discusses the basalt's mechanism to influence railway construction, analyses the influencing way and extent of basalt and makes the proposals to construction measures for the purposes of bringing more attention to the influence of basalt and providing the reference to design and construction of other railways.
Research Conclusions: Basalt often contains soil, sand and clay, and sandstone and its thickness and location often change. The rock-fall generally happens on braes of counter-layer. The different locations of basalt in embankment produce different influence results; The more shallow under the road is, the more favorable for the slope stability is. The basalt under bridge foundation increases design complexity and if is around tunnel, the stability of tunnel wall can be enhanced.
