Abstract A simple FEM of Ting Kau cable-stayed bridge is built, its dynamic characterizes arc analyzed and many simulated damage cases in the FEM arc investigated by using a structural damage detection method, CMSE, proposed by author. Results indicate that the dynamic characterizes of the simple FEM arc similar to those of Ting Kau cable-stayed bridge and CMSE is the same with flexible structures with low and intense frequencies such as long-span cable-stayed bridge and has satisfying precision in damage detection only using a few low modes.
