Abstract Two kinds of calculation methods of the limit bearing capacity of the eoncrete members and the stone-filled members were calculated and compared by the current standard design in which different shape of cross section members were considered. The results show that the method number one whose stress of the compressed region of the cross section is assumed to be distributed in a rectangular shape has a clear meaning,is in accord with the habit of design and close to the current bridge code. It reflects the rules of the changing of the code and could be recommended.
