Abstract The span of the West-Riv er ex t ra-lo ng bridg e o n the Guang-Zhu Railw ay i s 72+ 5 × 116+ 72m, w hich w as built wi th the partial prest ressed concrete continuous beams. By applying the SUPER S AP sofew are, the pa per ex pounds the method and the result of the spatial analy sis fo r the No. O block of these beams. It i s found tha t there w ere much hig her tensio nal stress nea r the No. O suppo rt , and af ter the prestress being applied, a t the outside edg e o f the local regio n on the to p pla te of the box beams. By t raditional 3D fini te element analysis, it i s impossible to obtain these resul ts. Finally , the co rresponding engineering measures are proposed.
