1 SPEED UP CONSTRUCTION OF RAILWAY NETWORKS AND TURN ROUND “BOTTLE-NECK” STATUS
Ni ping
The present railway traffic has been in the “bottle-neck” status which restrains the national economy developments. According to the circumstances of our country and our railways, this paper discusses the key role of railways on the national communications and transportations and the meaning of speeding up the construction of railway networks. The railway network con-structions consist of the construction of new lines and the reform of existing railways. Speed up new line construction should be put forward and the technical reform of existing trunklines should be strengthened continuously. Nevertheless, according to the situation of the railways and the needs of its passenger and freight traffic developments, the heavy-haul freight traffic and the high-speed passenger traffic should be taken as the targets, so that the modernization of the tech-nical equipments may be realized.

5 SITUATION AND FUNCTIONS OF XFAN-NANJING RAILWAY IN CHINESE RAILWAY NETWORK
Xu Jinsheng
Combining with the requirements of the present national reform and economy develop?ments ,this paper gives the discussions on the important meanings of constructing the Nanjing- Xi,an Railway Line and its situation and functions in the Chinese railway network. This railway line will be a new east-to-west main trunkline. The problems on circuitous traffic for a long time may be solved, and the intense circumstances of the traffic capacity of the main trunklines may be released. This line bring forth a new structure in the railway networks of the East China and the Middle-South China. The construction of this new railway line has very important meanings on properly regulating the economy distributions and the enterprise structures and on speeding up the development of socialist market economy.

51 RESEARCH ON FAILURE MECHANISM OF RAILWAY CUTTING SLOPES WITH EXPANSIVE ROCKS
Li Min
Based on the engineering geological characteristics of the expansive rocks on the Na- Pai Section of the Nanning-Kunming Railway Line, combined with the failure examples of cut?ting slopes with expansive rocks on the roadbed testing engineering works and the investigated results of slope failure in the Na-Pai Section, the mechanism of failure produced on expansive rock cutting slopes in the Na-Pai Section has been analyzed and researched. This paper points out that the principal factors causing unstable failure of cutting slopes are expansive. crack and low- strength properties of the expansive roeks. Thereby, the reference bases for taking engineering measures to further renovate the expansive rock defects are also proposed in this paper.

90 PRINCIPLES OF SELECTION AND DESIGN OF INTERSEC?TIONS FOR HIGH-SPEED RAILWAYS
Ju Haozhi
The overpassing trains in the high-speed railways must pass through the points which intersect the nearby railway for changing lines. Designing the intersections are the component parts of the design of the high-speed railway. According to the study result for the number of overpassing trains in pairs in the Xuzhou-Shanghai Section of the Jing-Hu High-speed Railway, this paper suggests the ideas and analyses questions whether the inter?sections are set at Wuxi,Nanjing,Pukou,Bengfu, Fuliji,Xuzhou, etc, and the questions how the inttisections are set. Preliminary ideas on the design range and the design principle are suggested in this paper.

Wang Houxion ;Huang Jianran
This paper discusses the several factors which influence the minimum curve radius on a high-speed and medium-speed common railway track. The regularities of the minimum curve radius are analyzed superficially. There are three target values for high-speed,L e. 250km/h,300km/h and 350km/tu A preliminary view at the minimum curve radius on the tracks corresponding with the above three speeds has been proposed.

106 DISCUSSION ON STABILIZED STRUCTURE OF SURFACE LAYER OF FOUNDATION BED FOR HIGH-SPEED RAILWAYS
Wang Lihui
The functional requirements on surface layer of foundation bed for high-speed rail?ways are rather more strict than for ordinary railways. In other countries, the stabilized layers with various structure forms which are different from the traditional mode have been adopted as the surface layer of foundation bed for high-speed railways, but the engineering costs are raised consequently. Therefore,it is very necessary to select a reasonable and economical sta?bilized surface layer which is suitable for the conditions of our high-speed railways. The tech?nology, strength and other properties of a dry-hard soil material stabilized by cement are re?searched in this paper. Based on the research, the realizability of using this material as the surface layer of foundation bed for the high-speed railways has been discussed.
