13 STRENGTHENING MANAGEMENT OF LABOR STANDARDS AND INCREASING ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF ENTERPRISES
WU Ze-lin
The China Railway Engineering General Corporation was separated from the Ministry of Railways in 2001, and managed by the National Enterprises Working Committee. The National Ministry of Labors & Social Insurance and the National Standardization Committee authorized the Corporation to be responsible for working out the professional standards of labor quota and fixed number of labors for China railway engineering projects and their management. The establishment of the "Technical Committee for Standardization of China Railway Engineering Labor Quota and Fixed Number of Labors” and the “Secretariat of the Technical Committee for Standardization of China Railway Engineering Labor Quota and Fixed Number of Labors” have been approved formally. The national standardization management department has entrusted to the Corporation for working out professional standards of China railway engineering labor quota and with management functions. Thus, the decisive role of these professional standards may be brought into full play in the withdrawn standard from the manpower cost of engineering summary estimate and budget. It may lay a foundation for raising perfectly the ability of enterprise to participate the competition of market in home and abroad and for increasing the economic benefits.

32 APPLICATION OF REMOTE SENSING GEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF NAN-KUN RAILWAY
ZHUO Bao-xi
This paper outlines the process and efficiency of applying remote sensing technique in the geological survey during construction of Vanning-Kunming Railway. Because the remote sensing was only used in the surveying period in the past time, this practice is the first time for applying remote sensing during construction, and therefore is a break-through of the usage of remote sensing. The paper describes firstly the geomorphology and the sketch of geology along the railway. According to the requirements of the construction authority, the interpretation of fault-related structures was carried on the whole railway by using the Landsat TM images. White-black images were used for the geological interpretation of main tunnels, karst areas and the locality of Badu Bridge. Aerial photos taken in different times were applied to dynamic analysis of mud-rock flow valleys in the Duanjia River drainage area. The paper also lists the comparisons between the suggestions of remote sensing interpretation and the testifying results of construction in some segments of the railway. It can be seen from the list that most results of the remote sensing interpretation are correct. Finally, this paper deduces some conclusions and puts forward that it is beneficial to apply objectively and considerately the remote sensing technique in the construction. Meanwhile, the paper points out that the application of remote sensing technique does not mean may be applied anywhere.

43 DEVELOPMENT ORIENTATION OF URBAN TRANSIT IN CHINA
WANG Meng-shu
The urban rail transit is the important means to solve the current urban traffic jam. The development of private and public cars should be restricted, whose serious consequences should be taken into special attention. The difficult problem of current urban traffic jam cannot be resolved by using the intelligent traffic. Therefore, the urban subway and the urban light rail should be developed vigorously. The conceptions should be confirmed during the development, and the orders of "safety, reliable, applicable, economy and advance" should be treated correctly.

78 A BRIEF STUDY OF THE AESTHETIC QUALITY OF BRIDGE
WANG Wen-bing, et al
We usually only think of the engineering quality of bridge as mentioning the quality of bridge. In fact, the quality of bridge includes two respects: the engineering quality and the aesthetic quality. The engineering quality is the everlasting basis of the aesthetic quality; the aesthetic quality is the transcending of its engineering quality. The aesthetic quality of bridge, in fact, is the result of judging of bridge from aesthetic opinion. It embodies many respects. It is not only built, but also given. Let bridge transcends the material limitation, gains the beauty of life and beautiful life, let above idea is becoming the inner ruler of the design and building of bridge. This is just the goal of the study of the aesthetic quality of bridge.

117 A NEW WAY TO CALCULATE MODULUS OF COMPRESSIBILITY OF COMPOSITE FOUNDATION
ZHENG Jun-jie, OU Jian-hua, YUAN Nei-zhen, FANG Qing-han
The analytical solutions of composite modulus in both elastic and plastic conditions are deduced by applying parametric variational principle. The results show that the solution in elastic condition agrees with that calculated by conventional square-weighted average method, while the solution in plastic condition is related to factors including load and the ratio of soil stiffness in elastic condition to that in plastic condition. The solution provides a new way to calculate modulus of compressibility of composite foundation and is beneficial to engineers.

129 EXPLORATION ON ALLOCATION OF CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY FOR DRILLING AND BLASTING OPERATION OF RAILWAY EXTRA-LONG SINGLE-TRACKED TUNNELS
LIU Yuan-zhong, FANG Jun-bo
Yuanliangshan Tunnel is the longest single-tracked tunnel during construction of Yu-Huai Railway. The allocation of its construction machinery is introduced in this paper. It is expounded that by adopting the traditional construction methods (such as full face tunnelling method or lower guide-adit method) and allocating national-made machinery may obtain also stable and high-efficient rapid tunnelling speed for construction of railway extra-long single-tracked tunnels. Therefore, the good allocation of construction machinery is the key for guarantee rapid tunnelling of extra-long tunnels. At the same time, several suggestions are proposed for allocation of construction machinery for extra-long single-tracked tunnels in China in the future.
