Based o n the di scussions o n the main engineering geological problems, the relationship betw een permaf rost stabi li ty a nd engineering , the related st rategical principles and engineering measures for the basic engineering and the advisability in the permaf rost a rea of Qinghai-Xizang pla teau, the adv antages and disadv antag es hav e been analy zed for ro ute selection plans of railw ay tow ards Xi zang . Only considering the exi stence and dev elopment of permaf rost and the engineering damag e in the cold regio ns, the Qinghai-Xi zang rai lway line should be thoug ht as the best one among al l plans.

The author surpervi sed a nd participa ted in the outdoo r a nd indo or g eo logica l w o rks fo r the feasibi li ty research of the Chuan-Za ng a nd the Dian-Za ng railway lines. The natural ci rcumstances alo ng these tw o rai lwa y lines w ere v ery complex , such as the complex to pog raphy and geolog y, be sparsely po pulated, harsh climate, thin atmosphere, cool w ith high alti tude, lack o f ox yg en, v ery dif ficul t communicatio n, ex t remely hard living conditions, etc. Furthermore, o nly a sma ll amount o f regional geological info rmatio ns could be o btained. by fully applying the superio ri ties of the remo te sensing image w ith wide cov ering a rea, plenty info rmatio ns, low cost, rapid speed a nd hig h ef ficiency , the autho r determined and v eri fied the topo g raphic and g eo logic condi tio ns along these tw o lines having a leng th nearly 2000 km。Thus, the necessary engineering geological info rmatio ns fo r making feasibi li ty research w ere proposed, and a fo undation was laid to promo te the remo te sensing technique.

A HIGH EFFICIENCYMODEL OF SUBWAY′S TURN-BACK STATION

The paper a naly zes the adv antage and disadvantag e of sev eral dif ferent types of subuay′s turn-back statio n. A new statio n model w hich has bo th the adv antages o f these stations a t same time has been deriv ed by the autho r. Thi s kind o f statio n has no ture-back t rack af the rear of the station. Iherefo re, the center of the statio n may be clo se to the paseng er f low . Tts capaci ty o f receptio n and depar ture o f t rains is ra ther higher tha n th e station w ith the turn-back track at the rea r of the sta tion. There are g rade-sepa ra ted co nnecting t racks in the adva nce section of this new -ty pe statio n which is dif ferent f rom the other types o f the station. The new model i s named here as the turn-back statio n model w ith co nnecting t racks.
